Little Picture Examination: At first glance, I observed the bright colors on the sign of the store of the wing restaurant. The sign features an cartoon image wearing a traditional Eastern Asian hat. The sign is also written in a font thatr is typical for Japanese or Chinese restaurants I also look and see that the sign is peeling off, as it could be old. Along with that, I also see that the restaurant is boarded up, no longer being currently in business.
Big Picture Examination: When looking at the bigger picture, you can see that the restaurant has been closed down for a long time, as noted by the peeling sign. You can also see that the location where the former restaurant was located is dying financially, as noted by the businesses across the street also not having a lot of business. It is also shown that the location is dying financially by the lack of people in the area, as shown by the single woman that is on the street.
3. Both Wing Young Huie and Margaret Atwood present the idea of "othering" in the deliberate manipulation of the audience. In the photograph, Huie manipulates the audience by using position. There could be more individuals present within the shot but Huie angels the camera to only display one person in the shot. Huie also shows the idea of "othering" by displaying the business as an empty, something that is alien to the idea that is typically found within businesses, as businesses are assumed to be growing. Margaret Atwood presents the idea of "othering" within the manipulation of the audience, as she makes the audience believe what Offred wants through the single first person narration. This shows the idea of "othering", as Offred's thoughts and actions are so fundamentally different compared to the actions of today. Both ideas of "othering " differ from one another, as Huie manipulates through space and the angling of the image while Atwood manipulates through perspective.
